Time and Work for Bank Exam -PO, Clerk Specialist Officer – IBPS
Time and Work for Bank Exam -PO, Clerk Specialist Officer – IBPS
Type 1 :
Example: A can do work in 21 days and B can do the work in 28 days. If they worked together in how many days will they complete the work.
Solution:
Apply this Short Trick to gain speed
1/21 + 1/28 = 1/12
12 days
Type 2:
Example: A can do work in 12 days, with the help of B he can do the work in 10 days. In how many days can B alone do the work.
Solution:
Apply this Short Trick to gain speed
A + B = 1/10
A = 1/12
B = 1/10 – 1/12 = 1/60
=60 days
Type 3:
Example: A and B can do work in 12 days and 20 days respectively.A stared the work work and left after 3 days. B immediately took over and worked till the completion. In how many days was the total work completed
Solution:
A = 1/12th of work in one day
A = 1/12 x 3 = 1/4 th work in 3 days
and 3/4 th work is still remaining
B= 1/20 in one day
3/4 x 20 = 15 days
A+ B = 15 + 3 = 18 days
Example: A and B can do work in 6 days. B and C in 8 days and A and C in 10 days.If all three work together, in how many days will work completed.
Solution:
A + B = 1/6
B + C = 1/8
A + C = 1/10
1/6 + 1/8 + 1/10 = 47/120 in 2 days
In one day 47/ 240
So, 240 / 47 days
Example: A can do work in 6 days more than what B takes to do the work A for 7 days then B takes the work and completed in 10 more days. In how many days each of them can complete the work individually
Solution:
B= X days
A= X +6 days
work done by A in 7 days = 7/(X + 6)
work done by B in 10 days = 10/X
7/(X+6) + 10/X = 1
X = 15
So, B = 15 days and A = 15 + 6 = 21 days
Type 4: In that type of questions two or three quantities are give in both part of question and asked for any quantity that are not given in question.
Example: A hostel has provision for 800 men for 24 days at the rate of 2 kg per men per day. For how many rate is the provisions sufficient for 20 days at the rate of 15 kg per man per day
Solution:
Apply this Short Trick to gain speed
(800 x 24 x 2) / (20 x 15) = 1280
Type 5 : These type of question are called pipes and tanks.
Example: Two pipes can fill a tank in 15 min and 25 min respectively. Both pipes are opened together and after some time the first pipe is closed and the tank is full in totally 15 min. For how many min was first pipe open
Solution:
2nd pipe open for 15 min
So, 15/25 = 3/5 part of tank filled
1- 3/5 = 2/5 tank to be filled by 1st pipe
2/5 x 15 = 6 min
Example: Pipe a can fill a tank in 8 hr and pipe B can empty a tank in 15 hr. If both pipe are open together in how much time will the tank become full
Solution:
Apply this Short Trick to gain speed
1/8 – 1/15 = 7 / 120
= 120/7 days
Type 6:
Example: 5 men and 9 women do the work in 10 days and 6 men and 12 women do the work in 8 days. Then 3 men and 3 women can complete the work in how many days.
Solution:
Apply this Short Trick to gain speed
(5M + 9W)10 = (6M + 12W)8
By solving this equation M = 3W
we know that 5M + 9W = 10
So, 8M= 10 days
4M = 20 days
3M + 3W = 4M
ANS = 20 days
Type 7:
